Great question! And you're not alone in asking it. Virtual interior design is professional design delivered entirely online. No in-person visits, no scheduling around a designer's availability, and no geographic limitations. Just beautiful, personalized design wherever you are.
Instead of meeting in person, everything happens through your secure client portal, powered by HoneyBook. From your initial contract and invoice to your design boards, product recommendations, and 3D renderings, it's all in one place, organized, accessible, and easy to navigate. All you need is an internet connection and a vision (and honestly, we can help with the vision, too). The process is collaborative, personal, and designed to fit around your life — not the other way around.

Here's How It Works
From your first inquiry to your finished space, here's what the Pence Creative experience looks like from start to finish.
Step 01 — Schedule Your Free Intro Call
Every project starts with a conversation. This free 15-minute call is a chance for us to get to know each other, talk through your space and goals, and make sure we're a great fit before any commitment is made. There's no pressure and no obligation, just an honest conversation about what you're looking for and how we can help.
Step 02 — Select Your Service
After your intro call, you'll choose the service that's right for your project. Not sure which one fits? Sarah will point you in the right direction during your call. You can also browse all services and their deliverables on the Virtual Design Services page.
Step 03 — Agreements & Payment
Once your service is selected, you'll receive your onboarding packet through HoneyBook — your secure client portal. This includes your proposal, contract, invoice, and project questionnaire, all in one place. Everything is digital, straightforward, and easy to sign and submit from any device.
Step 04 — Complete Your Project Questionnaire
This is where the magic starts. Your design questionnaire is your opportunity to share everything Sarah needs to create a design that feels completely, unmistakably you, your style, your budget, your must-haves, your pet peeves, and all the details about your space. You'll be asked to share photos, measurements, and inspiration images. The more you share, the better your design will be. Take your time with this one. It's the foundation of everything.
Step 05 — Sit Back While Sarah Gets to Work
This is the fun part for both of us. Once Sarah has everything she needs, she gets to work on your design plan. You'll be able to check in through your HoneyBook portal, and Sarah is available via messaging throughout the process if questions come up. Depending on your service, your design plan will include some combination of floor plans, 3D photorealistic renderings, a 720° virtual walkthrough, a curated product list, a shoppable design board, and detailed styling instructions. Everything you need to bring your space to life.
Step 06 — Review, Refine & Implement
When your design plan is ready, Sarah will walk you through every detail. You'll have the opportunity to review, ask questions, and request revisions so the final plan feels exactly right. Then it's yours — to implement at your own pace, in your own time, and within your own budget. No pressure, no deadlines, no rush. Sarah remains available for support as you bring your design to life, so you're never left figuring it out alone.
A Few Questions We Hear a Lot
Q: Do I need any special software or apps? Nope. Everything lives in your client portal, which you can access from any browser on your computer, tablet, or phone. No downloads required.
Q: What if I'm not tech-savvy? Not a problem. Your client portal is designed to be simple and intuitive. If you need a little help navigating, Sarah will walk you through accessing and using your portal at the start of your project. If you ever get stuck, just send us a message.
Q: How do I share my space with you if we never meet in person? Through your project questionnaire, you'll share photos, measurements, and any inspiration images that show us everything we need to know. The more detail you provide, the more tailored your design will be. And don't worry, we will always ask questions to be sure we never miss the mark.
Q: Can I still ask questions once the project starts? Absolutely. Instant messaging and emailing with Sarah are included in every service package, so you're never on your own during the process.
Q: What if I want to make changes after I receive my design plan? Every service includes a revision round so you can refine the plan before it's finalized. Additional revisions beyond what's included in your package can be arranged at an additional cost if needed.
